The Palm Boiling Drum is a large-capacity metal drum used for sterilizing freshly harvested oil palm fresh fruit bunches (FFB) before digestion. Sterilization by boiling in high-temperature water or steam deactivates the enzymes that cause free fatty acid (FFA) development in the oil, a critical step for producing high-quality, commercially accepted palm oil. Proper sterilization also loosens the palm fruits from the bunch stalk, softens the fruit mesocarp for efficient digestion, and kills any surface pathogens on the fruit. Skipping or inadequately performing sterilization is the most common cause of poor-quality, high-FFA palm oil that attracts lower market prices.
